Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar can now add MLB All-Star to his young resume.

The 27-year-old western Pa native has been selected to participate in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game in Los Angeles.

Bednar is a graduate of Mars Area High School and goes by the nickname "The Renegade," as a homage to the Pittsburgh Steelers use of the classic "Styx" song as the team's pump-up anthem.

Bednar was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2016 and was part of a three-team trade between San Diego, Pittsburgh and the New York Mets prior to last season.

He has appeared in 34 games so far this season, posting a record of 3-2, an ERA of 2.63 and has recorded 15 saves.

The 2022 MLB All-Star Game will air next Tuesday, July 19, on Fox. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m.
