Governor Wolf recently signed into law Act 90 of 2022 which in part amends Title 75 to implement “Christine’s Law” which further regulates the removal of snow and ice from vehicles.
Championed by Senator Lisa Boscola, “Christine’s Law” seeks to prevent tragedies like the death of Christine Lambert of Palmer Township who was killed on Christmas Day 2005, by a large piece of ice which crashed through her windshield after dislodging from a passing box truck.
Penn State releases 2024 football schedule; will open season against West Virginia
University Park, PA (WJAC) — Penn State has released its 2024 football schedule, which includes several new opponents as a result of the expansion of the Big Ten Conference.
For the second year in a row, the Nittany Lions will begin their season with a renewal of an old rivalry as Penn State will travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers.
Penn State will also welcome newcomers UCLA and Washington to Happy Valley.
Pirates trade all-star Frazier to San Diego Padres for prospects
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Pirates all-star second baseman Adam Frazier has been traded to the San Diego Padres for three prospects.
ESPN first reported the trade, moments later The Athletic reported some of the prospects coming to the Pirates.
Frazier was removed from the game against the San Fransico Giants as the reports began leaking out and manager Derek Shelton could be seen walking back with him into the clubhouse. A starter in the All-Star Game earlier this month, Frazier was slashing .

GLENDALE, Ariz. (TND) — A Christian leader is in critical condition after being shot in the head while preaching on an Arizona street.
Hans Schmidt, 26, was reportedly preaching from the Bible using a megaphone on a street corner in Glendale Wednesday night, something he had done many times before. Schmidt also works as the outreach director at Victory Chapel First Phoenix, a local church.
Paul Sanchez, a witness who works nearby, reportedly said he saw a car pass Schmidt while people inside screamed and cussed at him.
Crews from multiple counties battling large forest fire in Jefferson County
Jefferson Co., PA (WJAC) — According to Jefferson County EMS Director Tracy Zents, firefighters from multiple northern counties have been battling a large forest fire for most of the afternoon.
Officials say the fire is located within the Allegheny National Forest, in the area of River Road in Belltown.
Authorities say crews have been on scene since approximately 12:45 p.m.
Departments from Jefferson, Elk, Clarion, Clearfield and Forest county are all assisting.
ICC warrant unlikely to bring change to operations in Israel-Hamas war
(TND) — The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor is seeking arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and leaders of Hamas over the Oct. 7 terrorist attack and resulting war that has killed tens of thousands of civilians and sparked growing international outrage.
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said in a statement Monday morning that he was applying for arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant, along with Hamas leaders for Yahya Sinwar, Muhammad Deif and Ismail Haniyeh.
Man charged in New Year's Day shooting of Johnstown high schooler to head to trial
Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — A Johnstown-area man accused of shooting and killing a local high schooler on New Year's Day will soon head to trial.
On Wednesday, a preliminary hearing was held for 21-year-old Qwante Rose, who was charged in September in the shooting death of 19-year-old Jaydin Sanderson.
Sanderson was found inside her car in the middle of Wood Street, in the Hornerstown section of the city, on New Year's Day.

Penguins trade forward Jared McCann to Toronto
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forward Jared McCann to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Filip Hallander and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick.
"We are excited to add Filip back to the organization. He is a well-rounded player with good size who plays the game the right way," said Penguins general manager Ron Hextall. "We are grateful to Jared for his contributions to the team and wish him the best.
