ELK CO, Pa (WJAC) — Ridgway's annual Mountain Fest event is being held this weekend. The event kicked off Friday and will end on Sunday. There are several activities available including vendors, live entertainment and chainsaw carving. Mountain Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Crews on scene of house fire in Reade Township

Reade Township, PA (WJAC) — According to 911 dispatchers in Cambria County, crews are currently on scene of a house fire in Reade Township. Officials say the fire broke out at a home along the 100 block of Lidwell Road, in Fallentimber. Supermarket chain fights theft by banning large bags at DC area grocery stores

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJLA) — Grocery shoppers in the D.C. area will need to downsize their zippered bags when visiting Giant Food. The supermarket chain stated that starting late last week, suitcases, duffel bags, and bags larger than 14" x 14” x 6” that close have been banned at select stores in Washington, D.C. In a statement, officials explained that they initiated the new policy at select stores "experiencing high shrink to mitigate the unprecedented levels of product theft that have become unsustainable for our business.

Altoona man staged burglary, stole $2M from former relative

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Police say an Altoona man has been charged with stealing an estimated $2 million from a former relative. Police say last February, 29-year-old Andrew Booker reported that a safe containing the money was stolen from his 21st Avenue home during a burglary. Police determined that Booker staged the burglary and had spent more than one-hundred-forty-thousand dollars of the cash from May until August. Authorities note that much of the remainder of the money has yet to be recovered.

Apollo man found guilty of murdering wife

Westmoreland County, PA — Authorities in Westmoreland County say an Apollo man has been found guilty of fatally shooting his wife last year. Following a four-day trial, officials say a jury convicted 44-year-old Alfred Steele of first-degree murder. Steele was charged last May after police say he confessed to shooting and killing his wife Kelly at a U-Haul storage facility in Lower Burrell. Police say Steele turned himself in to authorities after shooting his wife in the back of the head after agreeing to meet her at the facility.

Authorities ask for public's help to identify 'person of interest' in New Kensington fatal shooting

Authorities in western Pennsylvania are asking for the public's help in identifying a "person of interest" in a fatal shooting that occurred last week in the New Kensington area. Police say on Thursday, October 19, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Kenneth Avenue for a report of a victim with a gunshot wound. Investigators say the victim, identified as 31-year-old Troy Vickers Jr., was transported to a Pittsburgh-area hospital where he later passed away, on October 21st.

California college president on leave after siding with anti-Israel protesters: 'Painful'

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. (TND) — Sonoma State University President Mike Lee is on leave after supporting anti-Israel protesters at his school in a campus-wide memo. Schools across the country have been home to Gaza solidarity encampments protesting the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas terrorists. Some organizers of these encampments have faced accusationsof being supporters of Hamas. Lee on Tuesday issued an “encampment update” in which he seemingly applauded the actions of protesters on his campus.
