Disabled device found inside student's room at Penn State Altoona, officials say

ALTOONA – After receiving a tip, Penn State Altoona campus police found a disassembled explosive device in a student's dorm room, according to a criminal complaint. Connor Chinoy, a freshmen enrolled in the university's Railroad Transit Engineering Program, is charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor offense. An investigation began when someone reported concerns on Penn State University's behavioral threat management team's website, saying a person overheard an Altoona campus freshman claim that he had built a bomb, according to the complaint.

Founder of popular Somerset Co. restaurant passes away

WINDBER, Pa. (WJAC) — Mildred Rizzo, founder of the popular Somerset County Italian restaurant Rizzo’s, died Tuesday morning, according to family members. Rizzo was the matriarch of the Rizzo family and founded the restaurant in 1965. She was inducted to the Greater Johnstown--Cambria County Business Hall of Fame in 2013. It includes everyone who is tailgating in Lot 13, no matter what team they support. The celebration is called communion. It happens every hour on the hour leading up to a Penn State kickoff. Over 200 people come from all over the Beaver Stadium tailgating lots to one tent for one reason.

Unruly juveniles recorded riding scooter, running inside CVS Pharmacy in DC

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — D.C. resident took to social media to express frustration over an alleged shoplifting incident at a CVS Pharmacy in Navy Yard Tuesday night. In videos posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by user Dang Laing, Tuesday night's incident appeared to involve several juveniles running around the New Jersey Avenue, Southeast store with one person using a scooter. Another video shot by Laing, which appeared to be taken shortly after, showed people in the store complaining to a security guard and someone throwing what appears to be a plastic bottle before leaving the store.

Court dismisses lawsuit filed by ex-PSU football trainer, Beta Theta Pi adviser

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A lawsuit filed by former Penn State football team trainer Tim Bream against the university has been dismissed in Centre County court. Bream claimed Penn State violated NCAA guidelines in reducing his responsibilities to avoid the appearance of scandal or impropriety. Bream was a live-in adviser at the fraternity house where a party led to the death of Timothy Piazza in 2017. Penn State says Bream never told them he was living at the fraternity.

Group holds Autism Walk for children, families to raise awareness

Johnstown group offers free prom dresses for those in need

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Cinderella Project has been helping girls dress to impress for prom for over a decade. Saturday they'll be having their 13th annual try on day at the YWCA in Johnstown, and it's all for free. Dresses aren't the only thing up for grabs, shoes and accessories will also be available. Everything is first come first-served, but there's no shortage of dresses, which are donated year-round.

Newly built Bedford Co. drive-in theater announces 2021 screening schedule

BEDFORD CO, Pa (WJAC) — The newly built Silver Lining Drive-In, located in Bedford County, has announced its 2021 movie schedule, according to a release from the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce. Movies will be presented on Saturdays between Memorial Day and Labor Day, including additional dates in April and around Halloween. Last summer, 60 area businesses came together to build the new drive-in theater and now it can be put to use.
