CATA considering raising bus fare, route changes

STATE COLLEGE -- The Centre Area Transportation Authority is considering raising its bus fare and changing some of its routes this summer. The fare increase would affect both CATA-BUS and CATA-RIDE. Prices would go up on Aug. 1 and the route changes would take effect on Aug. 19. The case fare for a one-way trip would increase from $1.75 to $2. The reduced fare price would go up from 85 cents to $1.

Centre County journalist faces mounting legal troubles over alleged teen sex solicitation

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — More legal problems, including more possible criminal charges, are facing a Centre County journalist accused of soliciting sex with teenagers. At the Centre County Courthouse Wednesday morning, Christopher Morelli was guided out of the building following his court appearance. 6 News asked him for comment. He declined. Within recent weeks, the 54-year-old Morelli has been arrested twice: Two separate cases on similar charges soliciting sex from teenage girls.

Lightning strike starts fire at Windber church Sunday morning

According to Somerset County dispatch, the Windber Church of the Nazarene caught fire early Sunday morning. The church, located at the corner of Graham Ave. and 9th St., lost a portion of its roof in the fire. Dispatch reported that one person had been taken to the hospital and the Fire Marshall had been contacted to investigate. Church Board Member Carol Hoover said the Fire Marshall told them that a lightning strike had started the fire and it is unclear whether the building is a total loss.

Tornado rips roof off Pennsylvania church with congregation inside

Union Township, PA (CNN) — A tornado tore the roof off of a Pennsylvania church over the weekend while people were gathered inside for a service. Video shows the confirmed tornado that violently tore through neighborhoods, ripping off roofs and uprooting massive trees in Union Township. Crossroads Ministries Church was having a service when the tornado came barreling their way. Pastor Ken Barner says about 100 people, including babies, were inside at the time.
