Affordable Connectivity Program ending; some service providers still offering help
WASHINGTON (TND) — Millions of Americans are losing access to a low-cost internet service. The Affordable Connectivity Program is coming to an end after losing congressional funding. The program launched in December of 2021 and 23 million subscribers took advantage. That includes Alisha Jones, a mother of two living in Delaware.
It was kind of like a saving grace for me, Jones said.With both her kids going to school remotely and Jones herself working towards a degree online, having internet, despite being on a fixed income, was a necessity.
Penguins bring back forward Drew O'Connor on two-year deal
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Wednesday that they have re-signed forward Drew O'Connor to a two-year deal.
O'Connor has played in parts of three seasons in the NHL after being signed by the Penguins as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
In 78 career games, O'Connor has tallied 8 goals and 9 assists. He also has 73 career points in 73 career AHL games.
O'Connor's new contract runs through the 2024-25 season and is worth approximately $925,000 annually.
Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling hosts Junior High State Championships in Johnstown
The Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Junior High State Championships took place right here at the Cambria County War Memorial over the weekend. Hundreds of people showed up to the event.
The tournament has been around since 1963 and bolsters the local economy. An estimated three thousand people filter through the area over the span of the competition.

President-elect Joe Biden chooses Dr. Rachel Levine to be assistant secretary of health
WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden has tapped Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine to be his assistant secretary of health, leaving her poised to become the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Dr. Rachel Levine was appointed to her current position by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf in 2017, she is a pediatrician and former PA physician general. Levine is one of the few transgender people serving in elected or appointed positions nationwide.
Prosecution rests in Trump's hush money case, defense now gets its turn to call witnesses
NEW YORK (AP) — The judge overseeing former President Donald Trump's hush money trial briefly closed the courtroom Monday, forcing reporters into the hallway after he admonished a defense witness for his behavior on the witness stand.
It happened minutes into the testimony of Robert Costello, a former federal prosecutor who has publicly blasted the prosecution’s star witness, Michael Cohen.
Costello aggravated Judge Juan M. Merchan repeatedly in his testimony by making comments under his breath and continuing to speak after objections were sustained -- a signal to witnesses to stop talking.
Increased tolls take effect on the Pennsylvania Turnpike
BEDFORD -- If you plan to take the Pennsylvania Turnpike, you might be digging for some extra change. That's because the 6 percent toll increase the Turnpike Commission approved last July took effect Sunday.
The turnpike has been increasing tolls annually since 2009, after a financial plan approved in 2007 made the turnpike a funding partner for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Officials say they need the money because they're essentially building a brand-new highway from the ground up.

More charges filed against PSU professor accused of lewd acts at public park
HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Huntingdon County say more charges have been filed against a Penn State professor who is accused of engaging in various sexual acts at a public park.
In June, police charged Themis Matsoukas after they say he was caught on camera at Rothrock State Forest engaging in sexual acts with his dog.
Authorities say following the initial investigation, police obtained search warrants for Matsoukas' electronic devices, where troopers reportedly discovered over 50 videos of Matsoukas engaged in various lewd acts at Alan Seeger State Park.
