Tree down causes power outages in Brownstown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — One Johnstown borough is without power due to a fallen tree and downed wires. Authorities say a tree fell on wires near Gilbert Street and Wall Street in Brownstown Friday morning. The downed wires caused power outages in the area. The roadways are being closed until crews can remove the tree and Penelec can restore power. According to the Penelec outage map, between 100-500 customers are affected by the outage.

1-year-old shot, killed in downtown Pittsburgh drive-by

PITTSBURGH (WPXI) — Authorities say a one-year-old boy was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday in downtown Pittsburgh. Police say a passenger in the car was the target, but the bullet went through the vehicle's window and hit the child. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Clearfield County woman killed in crash, daughter taken to hospital

BIGLER TOWNSHIP - A 34-year-old Clearfield County woman died in a single-car crash after hitting a tree Friday morning. Cindy Gausman, of Brisbin, was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris. The woman’s 11-year-old daughter, a passenger, was injured and taken by helicopter from UPMC Altoona to Pittsburgh. Dr. John Zesiger said the girl is a sixth grade student in the Moshannon Valley School District and was responsive when she left the scene in an ambulance.

Dozens of residents displaced after sinkhole appears in State College residential area

State College, PA (WJAC) — Dozens of residents have been displaced, and their townhomes abandoned, since Christmas weekend after a sinkhole opened up in their neighborhood. The large sinkhole appeared in the parking lot of the Park Forest residential area in Patton Township sometime over the weekend. Residents living along Amblewood Way were forced to leave their homes during the holiday after a reported water line break caused the ground to open up.

Pa. elk license sells for $85,000

ELK Co.-- Pennsylvania's reputation as a prime elk-hunting location continues to get stronger. The state's Special Elk Conservation Tag, a license created by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and auctioned off by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) to benefit wildlife, commanded $85,000 at auction March 26. RMEF is located in Montana and has about 13,000 members in PA. Eight tags for use in seven different states were auctioned off; Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

Pennsylvania woman dies after being hit by car in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — A pedestrian is dead after a crash on the corner of Kings Highway and 70th Avenue North, according to Myrtle Beach Police Dept. spokesperson Gretchen Kalar. Police responded to the call around 9:20 p.m. Monday. Rebecca Latuch, 49, of Somerset, PA died at the scene of her injures, according to Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard. Altoona man charged with vehicular homicide following deadly December street race

A 23-year-old Altoona man has been charged with vehicular homicide stemming from a December race that left two people dead. According to a probable-cause affidavit, at about 1:50 a.m. on Dec. 22, Caleb Criste, Grant Avenue, and Collie Brown raced each other in vehicles on 10th Avenue in Altoona. The race ended when Brown crashed into a light post and was ejected from the vehicle, according to the affidavit. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

First full-size 3D scan of Titanic shows shipwreck in new light

LONDON (AP) — Deep-sea researchers have completed the first full-size digital scan of the Titanic, showing the entire wreck in unprecedented detail and clarity, the companies behind a new documentary on the wreck said Thursday. Using two remote-operated submersibles, a team of researchers spent six weeks last summer in the North Atlantic mapping the whole shipwreck and the surrounding 3-mile debris field, where personal belongings of the ocean liner's passengers such as shoes and watches were scattered.
