Students displaced after water break at Penn State Altoona
ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Cleanup continues Tuesday after a sprinkler valve ruptured in a Penn State Altoona residence hall and displaced several students.
According to Penn State officials, the sprinkler valve ruptured around 7 p.m. Monday in Cedar Hall, affecting fewer than 60 rooms.
Officials said they’ve been cleaning up since just before 11 p.m. Monday.
They said air dryers and dehumidifiers are being used in each affected room and will continue to run until the building is completely cleaned and dried.

Officials say the EPA has conducted additional testing overnight and throughout the day Friday.

Kristie Haas, 31, pleaded guilty Thursday to murder by abuse or neglect, abuse of a corpse, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 50 years in prison on the murder charge, suspended for non-custodial supervision after 30 years behind bars.
