NANTY GLO- Nanty Glo Park and Pool reopened last weekend for the first time since last summer.

The pool was forcefully shut down after allegations of possible safety issues came up in July.

"We're tickled to death to have the pool reopened," said Frank Kaschalk president, of the Nanty Glo Municipal Authority.

In July 2016, a notice was stamped on the front gate, with padlocks locking everyone out.

After a thorough investigation by the Department of Health, officials said the pool would remain closed until all recommendations were complete.

"The department of health's main concerns before the pool could be reopened was our electrical inspection update and also the screen that's in corner on suction like of pool, she thought there could be entrapment possibility," said Kaschalk.

Nearly one year and $14,000 later, the pool reopened on Friday.

"We did put a figure of about $14,000 into the infrastructure. That money went into pool rooms and chlorinators. I also put in $4,000 for a new analyzing system for constant monitoring of chlorine and PH in the pool," said Kaschalk.

According to Kaschalk, more upgrades are to come.

"In the fall, we anticipate for all the decks to come out and they're going to be prepared for next year to be re-poured. Saying that, at the same time, the infrastructure as it exists right now will be reworked. The return lines will be put back into pool according to code to the way they originally were," said Kaschalk.

Authorities hope the public will come back to the pool with confidence that the pool is better than ever before.

"I just hope the people come back with confidence in us that we know what we're doing because we do it right," said Kaschalk.

Also part of the pool's closure last year, according to Nanty Glo Police, was a criminal investigation.

The former vice president of the municipal authority, Nicholas Dugan, is accused of making inappropriate advances toward young girls at the pool.

His case remains open after a preliminary hearing Nov. 7th.

When we asked the municipal authority about his case, they offered no comment.

The pool hours are Monday through Friday 1-6 p.m., Saturday from 1-7 p.m and Sunday from 1-6 p.m.
