A newly elected Clearfield County official accused of stealing a campaign sign belonging to one of his political opponents has reportedly entered a guilty plea in the case, according to online court records.

In November, Timothy Winters was elected to the Clearfield County Board of Commissioners.

Then, he was charged following an investigation into accusations that he allegedly stole a “Vote Mary Tatum Commissioner” sign from outside of the Hyde Volunteer Fire Company.

Police say that Winters was allegedly caught on camera taking a picture of the sign with his cellphone, before taking the sign and throwing it into his pickup truck.

Last week, Winters appeared in court where he reportedly pleaded guilty to a summary offense of illegally parking within 20 feet of a fire department.

Online court documents show that the most serious charges against him, which included theft and receiving stolen property, were withdrawn.

Winters was also ordered to pay a $50 fine, as well as additional costs and fees.
