LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) -- The Logan Township Police Department is receiving $16,000 in grant money from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

Chief David Reese says the department was awarded funds from the Reduction of Underage and Dangerous Drinking grant.

He said the grants are applied for and awarded on a yearly basis.

Reese said around $8,000 will go toward advertising on billboards geared toward younger people, designed to get the message out about underage drinking and dangerous drinking.

He said some of that money will also be used for public service announcements over the radio.

The rest of the money will be used for increased enforcement in areas around Logan Township that have off-campus housing for Pennsylvania State University, Altoona.

"We are a small police department,” Reese said. “We try to do a lot, and we try to have our interest in different areas. This is a chance to put out more police officers on overtime to go out and work on enforcement and to kind of change behavior, as well."

Reese said besides enforcement, the department needs a partnership with parents and adults to help reinforce good behavior with young people.
