JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Cinderella Project has been helping girls dress to impress for prom for over a decade.
Saturday they'll be having their 13th annual try on day at the YWCA in Johnstown, and it's all for free.
Dresses aren't the only thing up for grabs, shoes and accessories will also be available.
Everything is first come first-served, but there's no shortage of dresses, which are donated year-round.
All high schoolers have to do is show up with their student ID and no proof of income is required.
The Cinderella Project was started in 2007 by Johnstown native Megan Livingston.
She said the organization gives more than just a free dress -- it gives girls confidence.
The organization estimates over 1,000 dresses have been given to girls over the years.
“It's one of my favorite days of the year, to see that look on their face,” says volunteer Sherri Rey. "Especially some of the girls, that you spend some time with them and whether it's they're not finding anything that fits or they don't feel beautiful. Once you've spent some time with them and find out why, and what they're struggling with as far as body image or different things, then to see what you can do to help that change and make a difference in their life is awesome."
The Cinderella Project's try on day will start at noon on Saturday and end at 3 p.m.
But if you can't make it, don't worry -- they'll be having another try on day next Saturday.
