Northern Cambria Borough Police Department Chief Derek Stitt said four locations in the borough will soon have four new cameras helping to stop crime.
He said the there are two different types of cameras they are getting.
Officials said the first type is a license plate reader, which can read and analyze a car's license plate for outstanding warrants or check if they car is reported as stolen. They said those cameras are already installed in the area and have been used in investigations.
Authorities said other cameras that can recognize a person's face or clothing are going to start being put up on September 11.
"If there was a burglary and we have a suspect wearing a blue shirt and red pants we'd be able to upload that into the search criteria and it would give us a thumbnail picture of everybody wearing that outfit," Stitt said. "Even if he changes clothes later it will still pick up that suspect and you can get a whole pattern of that guy's day's travel."
He said the system can also study, record, and alert authorities of "odd" traffic patterns from vehicles.
