BIGLER TOWNSHIP - A 34-year-old Clearfield County woman died in a single-car crash after hitting a tree Friday morning.

Cindy Gausman, of Brisbin, was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Coroner Mike Morris.

The woman’s 11-year-old daughter, a passenger, was injured and taken by helicopter from UPMC Altoona to Pittsburgh.

Dr. John Zesiger said the girl is a sixth grade student in the Moshannon Valley School District and was responsive when she left the scene in an ambulance.

“Our thoughts and prayers are for her and her family,” Zesiger said. "We’re waiting to see what support the family needs and will answer that call when we get it."

The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. on Route 53/Green Acres Road in Bigler Township.

State police in Clearfield said the 2001 Pontiac Grand Am that Gausman was driving was traveling at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a right-hand curve. The car crossed over into the opposing lane and hit a tree on the left side of the road.

Morris said an autopsy is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m. to determine if Gausman had a medical condition that may have caused the crash.
