A 41-year-old Centre Hall man has been charged with stabbing and killing his dog Saturday night while he was on drugs.

Just before 8 p.m. state police responded to a report of a man running on East Main Street in Miles Township with a dog.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Robert Noah Lewis was high on mushrooms and had stabbed his America Bulldog, Axel, multiple times with a knife.

When on scene, first responders saw Lewis running “wildly” with the knife before he had an apparent medical emergency, according to the affidavit.

Lewis was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, where he remains under watch by police and hospital staff, according to the affidavit.

While being transported, Lewis spat at and bit a paramedic who was treating him, according to the affidavit.

At the scene, police found a blood trail and a "large puddle of blood" on East Main Street, according to the affidavit.

The dog was transported to VCA Metzger Animal Hospital for treatment. State police say the dog did not survive his injuries.

Lewis has been charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault, third-degree felony aggravated cruelty to animals, third-degree misdemeanor disorderly conduct and a summary offense.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
