STATE COLLEGE -- The Centre Area Transportation Authority is considering raising its bus fare and changing some of its routes this summer.

The fare increase would affect both CATA-BUS and CATA-RIDE. Prices would go up on Aug. 1 and the route changes would take effect on Aug. 19.

The case fare for a one-way trip would increase from $1.75 to $2. The reduced fare price would go up from 85 cents to $1.

One-month passes would increase to $79. Four-month passes would go from $268 to $309.

The cost of tokens would also go up.

The price would also rise for senior citizens (65 and older) and the disabled. A one-way CATA-RIDE would go from $3 to $3.25.

Family passes would be phased out in favor of cheaper youth passes. Day passes, priced at $6, would be added with mobile ticketing.

CATA is also considering several route changes, including the Toftrees and Scenery Park (HP) route and the Nittany Mall (M) route.

The north end of the HP route would change to a loop between Geisinger Gray’s Woods and Waddle Road. Inbound trips would no longer travel along North Atherton.

Some of the M route trips that were added for the opening of The Villas at Happy Valley would be eliminated. Sunday service would be increased.

Changes could also be made to the RC, VE, WE and XG routes.

A public hearing to give feedback to the board of directors is scheduled for Monday evening at 5 p.m. in the State College borough council chambers at the municipal building.
