A Brookville woman is facing multiple charges, including felonies, after attempting to kill her ex-boyfriend last Thursday morning in Jefferson County, state police say.

According to a criminal complaint, state police responded to a call from the mother of Paige Lander, 23, saying she received a text message from her daughter just after 4 a.m. saying she was sorry and that she was depressed and had suicidal thoughts.

State police said that Lander's mother contacted them, believing that her daughter was going to commit suicide, and state police were able to ping her phone to a location nearby.

The criminal complaint states that, as state police searched along State Route 28 for Lander, they responded to a call on the 200 block of Moore Lane Brockway, Warsaw Township, and found an individual with stab wounds.

According to state police, the victim told them that Lander was his ex-girlfriend and that she had stabbed him multiple times.

The criminal complaint states that the victim had multiple stab wounds to his face and neck as well as deep lacerations, exposing the bones and tendons, to his hands and fingers.

State police said that the victim told them that he and Lander broke up around eight months before but that Lander still had feelings for him and would send hundreds of messages to him from multiple phone numbers.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim said he was leaving to go to work when he noticed that his driver's side door was not pushed shut all the way.

State police said that the victim recognized Lander's vehicle blocking his driveway before Lander came out of the back seat and began assaulting him.

The criminal complaint states that, as the victim was fighting off Lander, he grabbed the knife blade, but could not get it away from her and suffered multiple stab wounds to the face.

According to state police, the victim told them that Lander said that she hated him, wanted him dead and that she did not like her life.

The criminal complaint states that the victim pleaded with Lander to let him go and that he would not report her if she did, but she did not believe him.

State police said that Lander got out of the car and ran to her vehicle before leaving and that the victim fell to the ground for a minute before getting help.

According to the criminal complaint, a search warrant on Lander's vehicle revealed a blood stained wipe and a folding knife and Lander was then taken into custody.

Online court dockets show that Lander faces one count of attempted murder of the first degree, one felony charge of aggravated assault with attempt to cause serious bodily injury with extreme indifference, one felony count of aggravated assault with attempt to cause bodily injury with a weapon, one count of terroristic threats, one count of recklessly endangering another person and one count of simple assault.

Court dockets also show that Lander is currently being held at the Jefferson County Prison.
